The Bull Hotel – Boutique Spendour in Bridport

Situated close to the sea, this hotel is steps away from Bridport Tourist Information Centre and Bridport Museum, The Bull Hotel in Bridport is the perfect bolthole for a trip to explore Bridport and the Jurassic Coast. Infact, West Bay Beach is just 20 min walk or 5 minutes drive away.

Scott Sullivan headed down to Bridport to check it out.

“Upon arrival at The Bull Hotel, we were greeted by delightful staff, who couldn’t have made us feel any more welcome.  I couldn’t help but be impressed by the Christmas decorations adorning the exterior of the building, reception and entrance. An eclectic mixture of regency elegance, the hotel will instantly impress people. The lit grand fire helped to provide a more welcoming and cosy feel. I decided there and then that I was really going to enjoy my stay here.

BullOur room did not disappoint either! Boasting a total of 19 rooms, we opted for a deluxe double room, complete with a beautiful four poster bed (The Red Four Poster, room 104 if you’re interested!). With bay-window seats overlooking the market and a vintage bath tub in the room this really does feel the ultimate in luxury. On glancing round the room, I noticed a Smart TV, a Nespresso Coffee Machine (there are not available in the single or snug rooms) white black-out blinds, fine Egyptian cotton linen, robes, and Bramley toiletries in luxury en suite bathrooms. The obligatory bed check confirmed what I already suspected – a bed that felt like I was lying on a cloud – bliss!

BullWe had been told of a secret style cocktail bar, hidden at the back of the hotel. Our
search found The Venner Bar through a surprisingly large ballroom where chandeliers and duck-egg blue walls line a great party space, ideal for weddings or functions. The Venner Bar is an eclectic mix of elaborate Georgian chairs and cosy worn leather. Here we tasted some of the best cocktails around, all presented by the bar manager Thomas Hays. Thomas Hays is fantastic to be around –  with such enthusiasm and passion in his work it was a delightful way to start the evening hearing stories of the great historic events that have taken place over the years.

After our cocktails, we made our way to the restaurant. We were sat at a cosy table for 2, near the open fire. The menu (you can take a sneak peak online) offers a great variety of rustic, locally sourced produce. You will be spoilt for choice! I opted for the Pigeon Breast – tender and cooked to perfection. I followed this with the highly recommended and very popular Wild Boar Ragu. Easy on the eye, this was absolutely bursting with flavour. When it came to choosing a pudding, again I struggled to choose one. In the end, the Baileys & Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding with Fuller’s Buffalo milk vanilla ice cream won me over.

A fully booked evening proves that this isn’t just a restaurant for the residents but a destination to travel to for a real taste of the Jurassic coast cuisine. With that in mind, booking is highly recommended. You can book online here.

The hotel offers a various places you can unwind with a drink 2 bars/lounges and a wonderful courtyard. Guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning. Wireless Internet access is also complimentary.

With overnight stays from £85 to £200, including free parting and Wi-Fi, it offers incredible value in a beautiful convenient location. I would highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to return.
